ACS Colloid and Surface Science Symposium

Conference Information

Please join us from June 23rd to June 26th, 2024 for the 98th ACS Colloid & Surface Science Symposium. The 2024 Symposium will take place on the campus of the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.

Symposium Schedule

  • We are excited to host you in the upcoming ACS Colloid and Surface Science Symposium in just a couple of weeks and wanted to send some information for preparations.

    Program is Available Online!

The conference program is online in the conference website and can be accessed by clicking on ‘Conference Program’.  There will likely be additional changes in the days as the conference approaches. However, the most current program will always be found in the conference website and we encourage you to consult it regularly. Digital abstract book will follow soon but abstracts and information about schedule is already available through the online program via Oxford Abstracts. In the interest of promoting sustainability, we will not be printing hard copies of the program.

    Sunday Reception

There will be a welcome reception Sunday June 23rd 2024 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the Lobby (1st Floor) of the Molecular Engineering and Sciences Building at the University of Washington (directions) where it will also be possible to obtain your conference badge (only on Sunday).

Conference Registration and Badge Pickup (Monday-Wednesday)

Onsite registration and badge pickup for the conference will be in the Husky Union Building (HUB) in the second floor of the building (directions). Plenaries and coffee breaks will also take place in this location.

    Transportation

Transportation from the airport to campus is easiest and least expensive using the Link Light Rail and exiting in the ‘University of Washington Station’ (closest to conference venue). A physical ticket or validated ORCA card is needed to board the light rail. Note that there is a downtown exit called ‘University Street’ that is very far from campus and is NOT the desired exit. The ‘University District’ station is also close to campus and can be more convenient to hotels and dormitory accommodations. Taxi or rideshare is also available from the airport and will typically cost between $60-80.

    Poster Preparations

Instructions on poster preparations can be found online in the ‘Technical Sections’ or you can click here.

    Oral Presentations

Oral presentations will take place in rooms across campus (mostly near HUB) including the HUB, Electrical Engineering, Bill and Melinda Gates Center for Computer Science, Paccar Hall, Guggenheim. Speakers will be able to present directly through their laptops. Session chairs and student volunteers will be available to assist, as necessary and to ensure that transitions are smooth and on time. We encourage speakers to test the connectivity of their computers in the assigned rooms prior to their presentation. Every room will be slightly different but you can expect an HDMI, USB2 or VGA connector to be available.

    Banquet

The banquet will be held at the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) on Tuesday June 25th 2024 from 7-9:30 PM. There will be bus transportation from the UW campus around 6:30 PM and returning to campus after the banquet.

    Fun Weekend Activities

For those arriving early on Saturday or Sunday, this happens to also be the weekend of the Freemont Solstice Parade in the Freemont neighborhood of North Seattle. This is easily accessed from the UW campus either by bicycle, walking or bus. This is a great opportunity to get to know the city and its residents. Hiking and downtown activities will also be great during the weekend.

Open Teaching Position in Chemical Engineering

We also take this opportunity to share with you that the Department of Chemical Engineering has recently announced an open position for an Assistant Teaching Professor with a special emphasis on Colloid and Surface Science. Information about this position can be found in the link and we will also be available to answer questions about the campus, the university, and the department. Please help us disseminate this information with your network.
